``AMERICAN IDOL‘‘

HOLLYWOOD (AP) _ Ramiele Malubay came up short last night on
``American Idol.‘‘ She was voted off, taking the news hard, crying
in the arms of Kristy Lee Cook. Malubay did manage to get it
together to sing her farewell song, Dolly Parton‘s ``Do I Ever
Cross Your Mind.‘‘ Simon dissed her performance Tuesday, likening
it to a cruise ship show. Last night, she admitted she found it
difficult to connect with country music. The two other bottom
vote-getters were Cook and Brooke White. Actually, Cook was
convinced she was the one who was going to be sent packing. She‘d
written a note that read ``Kristy‘s seat,‘‘ which she said was for
her stool in the bottom-three area. Alas, she‘ll have to use it
another week, as she was sent to the safety sofa. Also, last night
Dolly Parton hit the stage for a spirited performance of her new
single ``Jesus and Gravity,‘‘ off her latest album ``Backwoods
Barbie.‘‘ She mentored the contestants this week. And contestant
David Cook opened up about a health scare he had after Tuesday‘
performance. He says he was hospitalized as a precaution because he
has high blood pressure and it spiked. But he added ``I‘m not going
anywhere.‘‘
