^IOWA STATE-SPRING PRACTICE
Arnaud, Bates battle for ISU QB job
AMES, Iowa (AP) _ There‘s a battle for quarterback at Iowa
State.
It‘s between sophomores Austen Arnaud (are-NAWED‘) and Phillip
Bates.
The Cyclones, fresh off a 3-9 record in coach Gene Chizik‘s
first year in Ames, are looking for a replacement for Bret Meyer.
Arnaud was Meyer‘s heir apparent last fall, but from the looks
of things, he‘ll have to earn it in practice.
Bates threw for almost 3,000 yards at Omaha North High School in
Nebraska, but Chizik put him receiver last season because he
couldn‘t keep him off the field.
Arnaud and Bates have spent the past two weeks of spring
practice learning the playbook and trying to impress the coaches --
and the coaches haven‘t ruled out the possibility that both could
see action at quarterback.
The Cyclones open the season against South Dakota State in Ames
on August 28th.

AMES, Iowa (AP) _ The NCAA has granted Iowa State senior Toccara

The decision means the forward on the women‘s basketball team is
eligible to return to the Cyclones for the 2008-2009 season.
The Big 12 Conference made the announcement on Monday.
Toccara played in just nine games last season, averaging 6.4
points and 3.7 rebounds. She tore the ACL in her right knee in a
Dec. 21 game at Minnesota.
With the return of Ross and junior center Nicky Wieben, who‘s
also coming back from ACL surgery, Iowa State will return the
