     BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) _ A pair of Montana State throwers were
honored by the Big Sky Conference for their efforts last weekend.

     Sophomore javelin thrower Nick Lam of Billings was named the
men‘s field athlete of the week for his NCAA Midwest Regional
qualifying mark of 214 feet, 7 inches _ the best mark in the league
by nearly 10 feet. He won the event at the Al Manuel Dual Meet
Invitational in Missoula.

     Sophomore Kris Schaffer of Custer, S.D., was named the women‘s
field athlete of the week. Her throw of 47-9.25 in the shot put was
best at the invitational and hit the qualifying standard for the
regional meet. She also finished 13th in the discus.
